Objective

     

    On completion of this section the cytotechnologist should know:

  • The biological relationship of adenocarcinoma in situ and invasive adenocarcinoma
  • The main types of adenocarcinoma in the cervix and the histological presentation of adenocarcinoma (endocervical type)
  • The cytological presentation of adenocarcinoma in situ and invasive adenocarcinoma (endocervical type)
  • The cytological appearances of atypical glandular cells and their significance
  • The management of women with abnormal smears
